Bluetooth technology is used in most mobile devices to enable fast content exchange. Typically sent via bluetooth are songs, videos, and other media files. Since a phone can be detected via bluetooth, the mobile’s security is vulnerable. Viruses can be sent with the content you receive. You may also accidentally receive other bugs as mobile devices of strangers can detect you as well.
Basics of bluetooth technology
Bluetooth is defined as an open wireless protocol that can exchange data using radio waves over short distances. The exchange occurs from fixed mobile devices. Personal area networks are created when several fixed devices exchange with one another. The most advance form of bluetooth exchange is seen in the Playstation 3, Wii, and the PSP Go. Bluetooth protocols work y simplifying the service setup of the involved devices. They also make identification of other devices easier.
Security risks associated with bluetooth technology
Since short distances are involved, there are security risks to using bluetooth technology. In 2003, Ben and Adam Laurie of AL Digital Ltd. found that personal data can be revealed over bluetooth. This however, came from the inadequate implementations of the technology and not the actual protocol. In 2005, it was discovered that the PIN of a bluetooth link can be obtained during the initial exchange between to devices. Viruses and worms have also been sent from security breaches of bluetooth.
Although bluetooth has its risks, it only takes common sense and not too frequent use to avoid these.

Bluetooth 3.0 is a new innovation in wireless transfer that also promises a drastic reduction in energy consumption by your gadget when no transfer is occurring. It is officially called the Bluetooth Core Specification Version 3.0 High Speed (HS).
What exactly is Bluetooth 3.0?
Bluetooth 3.0 is a Bluetooth specification that comes with theoretical transfer speeds of 24 MB/s. This was adopted by Bluetooth Sig on April 21, 2009. While high speed transfer is the main draw to this new innovation, one drawback is the high energy consumption when transferring data, which means that the device needs to be plugged in more often.
Where Bluetooth 3.0 can be used
Bluetooth 3.0 is ideal for high-speed transfers. The transfer of data is made faster with this new version, and also features the ability to use alternative radio antennas. The increase in transfer speeds to 24 MB/s, up from 3 MB/s in the current 2.1 EDR version comes from using the faster 802.11 radio used by most Bluetooth devices today. Bluetooth 3.0 is also backwards compatible with earlier versions.
Because of these features, it is expected that Bluetooth 3.0 will become the main mode of wireless transfer adopted into future Bluetooth-compatible devices.

This innovation in the Bluetooth technology had been doing miracles for the past couple of years now with regard to how we live, work, and transact. SIM card-enabled handsets and wireless equipment can now connect with devices or interfaces that provide remote services. SIM Access profile can be used in our day-to-day activities, like using our credit card, calling through a phone booth, and even buying in a vending machine.
A call through your mobile phone is much expensive compared to using a phone booth. The SIM Access Profile can combine the cost of using a land line, while you can have a flexibility of using Wireless communication within a particular radius from the booth. The phone booth must be enabled by a Bluetooth SIM card and your mobile device must be unconnected to the cellular network, but running a SIM Profile client. You just need to establish a connection using your mobile device in making a regular call. The amount would then be automatically deducted from your SIM card by transferring APDUs that modify the card's ACM (Accumulated Call Meter, which accounts for the amount transacted during each call). It is also possible for you to purchase in a vending machine through this technology. As a consumer, you can operate the vending machine through your mobile device by establishing a wireless connection.

LockItNow and BeamItNow are two simple but useful sharewares I have recently downloaded from the BlueShareware site. Amazingly, the two software did quite impressive jobs on my first time to use them. Although I have yet to adjust myself with certain configurations on my PDA to adapt the application. Here's how LockItNow and BeamItNow work.
The LockItNow shareware Bluetooth application locks your computer when you are not using it so that intruders cannot access confidential and important files stored in it. It can sense if you're are no longer near your computer, that is, using a Bluetooth cellphone. the magic is, once you get near it, the computer is automatically unlocked. This is particularly useful when you're in a public place, say a library or coffee shop. When you turn on your laptop, and in the middle of it you have to search for a book, leaving your laptop to a colleague. He cannot access the files in your device without you near it because it is locked.
The BeamItNow shareware, on the other hand, makes it easy for users to beam images from their Bluetooth mobile devices to a computer using Bluetooth. This makes it easy to post images on the web or forward through email without the need to transfer the files painstakingly.

Bluetooth has worked a lot of miracles in technology. Because of bluetooth, we can now send pictures and other files without dealing with wires or added costs. But rarely do we hear news regarding bluetooth working in the field of medicine. I have made a mention before about a Bluetooth scanner and a bluetooth medicine cabinet. These are two of the latest developments in medicine that incorporates the use of Bluetooth radio technology for a sick person's convenience. As I was doing my research for another bluetooth article, I came across this bluetooth software that I thought was very smart.
The mDiabetic CreatorBlue software from Mobile Diabetic Inc was released recently. The amazing phone application could store readings of blood glucose of a diabetic patient. The readings are then sent to a digital data server. The information is received by a health practitioner who monitors the patient. Although the software has not been publicly released by the developer as it awaits approval from the USFDA, this is going to benefit people who are suffering from diabetes. It will aid patients in monitoring their blood sugar level. If ever there are emergencies, like an abrupt rise in the glucose levels, the monitoring physician is informed immediately.

For now, I can say that I cannot live without bluetooth. I don't know what I would do without that kind of tool that allows for seamless and wireless file transfer. But, of course, there are some people to thank with this technology.
One of the companies that are constantly on the move on making bluetooth a part of our daily life is IXI Mobile Incorporated. The company is a bluetooth applications software group that is responsible for developing technologies that could work with bluetooth. The company specializes on research and software, which is good news because that means they are providing ways on how to optimize bluetooth as conveniently as possible. I can't wait for bluetooth to finally capture data even when I'm, say, a mile away from the source (unlikely for now, of course).
Anyway, their communication software products cater to different markets. Their trademark is the PMG or Personal Mobile Gateway which enables bluetooth technologies to work as a personal network. Cool, huh? Most of their software solutions run on phones. One of these is IXI-Connect which extends mobile phone functions like SMS and VoIP to other devices via a mini-server. Ever heard of a mini-server before? This seems like the first time for me, and I can't wait to see what's next from this California-based company.

Bluetooth technology has changed the way people live their daily lives. This technology seems to be present everywhere. It is found in most mobile phones, handheld computers, laptops, and a lot of other devices. It has revolutionized the simple gadgets into more technologically advanced items that have made our lives better.
We use Bluetooth to bring wireless communication and seamless data transfer. It has also helped ordinary consumers better the performance of their computers and laptops. One way or the other, Bluetooth has made a tremendous improvement over the years and it has assured us that it is not just a fad.
Using the AirMagnet Bluesweep Freeware we can target the problem of security using Bluetooth devices. This freeware helps to identify any Bluetooth device around the user. Users can then see and analyze the connections that are made between these devices and also identify the services in each device. This way you can identify security issues that are otherwise hidden from you. You can safely track nasty information within your vicinity using this software. It is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP with the use of a Bluetooth driver and adapter.
