Based on the latest news, Bluetooth technology will undergo more significant developments in the coming years. The industry behind the technology told reporters that the improvements would focus on increasing the transmission speed of Bluetooth. This planned development will then broaden the scope of Bluetooth's function thus allowing it for high-definition videos including audio files for
digital music players such as iPod.
At present, Bluetooth technology functions at a low-speed. Moreover, it makes use of gadgets like wireless keyboards and headsets. UWN that is yet to be incorporated in the consumer products allows a
wireless transmission with a speed equivalent to that of FireWire cables and USB.
According to the developers of Bluetooth, the first devices with high-speed performance are due to be launched next year. However, the new set of Bluetooth products will be widely available in 2008. It must be noted that the UWB was developed by another group namely the WiMedia Alliance that is composed of
Microsoft Corp., Hewlett-Packard, and Intel Corp.
